New Kindle with WiFi announced
The new Kindle features a screen with increased gray-scale contrast, a battery that lasts for a month, and a slightly smaller size. It will come in two flavors: one with Wi-Fi and 3G Internet connections selling for $189, the other with Wi-Fi only for $139.
Amazon will begin taking orders Thursday and the new models will begin shipping Aug. 27 to customers in 140 countries. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...036454208.html Last edited by DianaB; 07-28-2010 at 07:40 PM. |

I still don't like the keyboard in the bottom, but aside from that, K3 sounds awesome.

This...is going to make waves.
Looking at all the people outside the US scheming to get their hands on the Nook WiFi, the ready availability of a WiFi Kindle for even less is bound to squeeze the reader market. |

Looks like I just may have to buy in on the wifi only version. I have been using the kindle for pc for awhile now and I enjoy the selection of ebooks that Amazon has and I have a fairly large collection of mainly free or very low cost Amazon ebooks.

Does it have expandably memory? I've already got 4 GB of books on my Nook, and the Kindle 2 only allows one to store 2 GB.

They increased storage to 4GB and switched to a webkit browser.
If the browser is even half decent, the WiFi version is going to be awfully tempting. Full Press release: Quote:
That could be...interesting... |

Great. Cheers for Amazon making e-reading more affordable. The more people e-reading, the more likely more books will be digitized.

£109 for a device with the new screen does seem very tempting, even though .mobi sucks as a format compared to epub. The 3G radio is probably nice for those scared of computers, but I never saw the point of it for my own use.

Just wait.. other companies will be using the new screens. I'm thinking Sony and B&N later this year.
