A Letto one. I just read on Adlibris forum that " a new firmware is in the works and should appear within a month."

I will believe that when I see it.

Just got another update via WiFi: Version 5.2 (build 1894)!

Unfortunately I can't see any changelog. Also, it's not yet on the bookeen-Homepage (still 1780)...

Booken.com does not work for sure.

But bookeen.com (with double 'e') seems quite OK at this time

There's an ePub file linked at the end (where it says "Simply connect your Cybook or follow this procedure...", the word "procedure" is clickable). From that ePub:

Determining your software version
  • From Home, tap “Settings”, “About...”.
  • The software version is displayed below “Boo Reader”.
  • If “Version: 5.2 (build 1780)” (or earlier) is displayed, the Cybook is up-to-date.
  • Otherwise, the Cybook can be updated automatically or manually, as described below.

Over-The-Air automated installation (via Wi-Fi)
  • Connect the Cybook to the Internet (by opening the ebook store or the browser). A dialog pops up to propose to install the firmware update. Validate to launch the installation. If [this update has previously been ignored, open the contextual menu (push the main button and tap “Menu”) and select “Check for update”.
  • The firmware update is automatically downloaded then installed.
  • The device restarts automatically with the new software version.

Manual installation (via microSD card)
  • Download the firmware update file from http://www.bookeen.com/en/supportdownload.
  • Copy the file CybUpdate.bin onto a microSD card.
  • Switch off your Cybook (Home, “Settings”, “Advanced”, “Shutdown”).
  • Insert the microSD card.
  • Press the main button (central button below the screen) and keep it pressed while switching on the Cybook.
  • When the boot image appears (after about 2s), you can release the main button.
  • Wait for a few minutes: The firmware update will start and, once completed, will restart the device automatically.

Do not link to unauthorised copies of copyright material.

I have left the other link since it is clearly in the Bookeen domain, but members should note that this is clearly intended a private non-final release that may have unfortunate bugs still in it.

Cybook Odyssey firmware?

Hello everyone!

Back from the past... I'm trying to bring back to life a Cybook Odyssey.
The battery looked good, but the latest firmware update (5.2) seems to be more difficult.
After the update (via WiFI) the e-reder is stuck to "Starting up..." page and do not move from there. Sigh! With the previous version it was working!

And here is my question: does anybody know where I can find a copy of the firmware?

I'd like to try to manually force it on the device.
I mean... what could ever go wrong? It's already bricked...
But I'd hate myself for not trying to restore it and simply trash it away!

Thanks!

Hey Tezz, what Odyssey do you have? What is the model number?
Is this an odyssey Hd? With or without Front light?
One good way to recognise the firs gen odyssey from the second gen is the power button. A slide button is the first gen, a push one is for the later.

Do you have an SD card in the device? There has been time where it can make the reading software slow to start when an SD card is in, it’s a bizzare bug.

If you are sure the firmware update did work fine, try to boot the device with the USB cable connected and if it mount on your computer copy all of the data then put them back by small batch, the software may be unhappy with one of the books.

If none of that work, and your don’t mind formatting the internal storage, you can boot the device in factory mode, make sure it is switch off, then press the two left/right button, keep them pressed while booting the device, it should show a slightly different splash screen with “Service mode” displayed.

From there use the left/right page button to go up and down in the menu and the home button to validate.

Select “Device tools”, the “Internal Memory”, you should first run the “check internal memory”, then go up in the menu, and reboot.

If it still don’t work, go back and select “format”

If it still don’t work then we will go through another route.

Let’s try that first, and tell me what you get.

If the factory mode works on your device and you are not sure which model you have, go to “device info” at the root of the service menu and give me the info tout have there.
Also the latest official for Odyssey should be 6.2, the 5.2 is a pretty old one.
