CNN: No Nook Colors for 2 weeks
Cnet (sorry, not CNN) is reporting that Nook Colors are being taken out of inventory at B&N and 3rd party sellers (BB). Rumors are that there are hardware issues ... other rumors are that B&N is trying to block rooting ... Android Honeycomb has already been ported to the Nook Color and B&N may be worried about sales of its ereader going to people who will install the Android system and not use the B&N store.

Remove inventory to block rooting instead of pushing out an over the air firmware update.

aother rumor, which I hope is very true, is to install the new firmware update on all new models, which means we may be close to our Froyo (2.2) update coming sooner rather than later.

Since people can read Kobo books on an unrooted Nook, I find it weird that they would supposidly be worried about a Kobo App. Anyone who knows how to root a Nook would know that they don't need the App.
Trying to block the Kindle App I can see... |

"Ships in two weeks." This is going to be hilarious, if anti-rooting measures are the intent. The over and under on the XDA guys defeating B&N's "measures" is a week. |

The website has said "ships in two weeks" since the end of the holiday season. Wonder why this is getting attention all of a sudden.

I don't see why you'd put much stock in an obscure website that cites anonymous sources with random speculation.
The more normal "ran out of inventory" is much more likely, especially since they've had supply issues in the past. |

I doubt B&N or any other company can stop someone to hack a device. As long as we have people outside interested and Nook Color keep running on top of Linux, I would say is doable.
But maybe is time for Nook Color fans go out and buy a Galaxy Tab or a Dell streak. They won't have to worry about keep hacking the device for ever and will be able to run Nook for Android and Kindle on same device. Sorry, sorry, bad joke, I could not contain myself ... lol ... |

The Nook has a one week wait time on the B&N site, I wonder what that means.

LOTS of NCs in stock at my local B&N as of 2:30pm MST. (And I forgot to test in-store reading with my rooted 1.1.0 NC, which is why I went in the first place! - Got caught up in a discussion with a very tech-savvy clerk about the latest autonooter instead.)
For grins, I called my local BB a minute ago and they have them in stock as well. Yeh, CNet's uncited sources must be correct. Much more likely a supply-side issue rather than new firmware, or especially the rumor about them trying to block rooting. Yeesh... |

Looks like it was a bug in their shipment that they are trying to fix
