I certainly like pork and cooking it. But cooking penguin, no, I don't believe in that. I don't mind cooking birds like turkey and chicken, but not penguin.

Penguin Books once received a letter from Antarctica complaining that the Penguin Cookery Book contained no recipes for cooking penguin. The complainants, members of the British Antarctic Survey therefore provided one.

I hear that they taste like chicken (that's what they seem to say in the U.S. about any unusual meat--rattlesnake, turtle . . . .). haha

Well, people who've been to Iceland and tasted the local delicacy (well, one of them, at any rate), the puffin (which is also the national bird), can tell you that it actually tastes like fish, so penguins are probably pretty similar.

Bargain @ $1.99 from Kensington Books (couponable @ Kobo, likely available in all the standard stores, price good for Canada & US, perhaps other regions as well, etc.):

Joanne Fluke's Lake Eden Cookbook by popular cozy mystery writer Joanne Fluke (SYKM, Wikipedia), a tie-in collection of recipes from her Hannah Swenson series. This contains all-new recipes as well as the ones you might expect that were included in the novels, according to the blurb.

It's a picture postcard December in Minnesota, and Main Street is brimming with festive holiday decorations. Best of all, it's time for the annual Holiday Cookie Exchange at the Community Center--catered by none other than The Cookie Jar! Gathered together for the delicious event, the Swensen clan and their friends share their favorite juicy tales of Lake Eden--and their favorite scrumptious cookie and luncheon recipes, including:

(list of recipes omitted)

. . .plus all the recipes from Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder to Carrot Cake Murder. Now you can bring the irresistible flavors of The Cookie Jar into your very own kitchen!

Bargain @ $2.99 from Sourcebooks (couponable @ Kobo, etc. etc.):

Frozen Assets: Cook for a Day, Eat for a Month by Deborah Taylor Hough, who incidentally is also the author of Frugal Living for Dummies.

The best-selling freezer-based cookbook, with more than 22,000 copies sold.

This breakthrough cookbook delivers a program for readers to cook a week or month's worth of meals in just one day by using easy and affordable recipes to create a customized meal plan. Deborah Taylor-Hough, who saved $24,000 on her family's total grocery bill during a five-year period, offers up kid-tested and family-approved recipes in Frozen Assets, plus bulk-cooking tips for singles, shopping lists, recipes for two-week and 30-day meal plans, and a ten-day plan to eliminate cooking over the holidays.

Cooking for the freezer allows you to plan ahead, purchase items in bulk, cut down on waste, and stop those all-too-frequent trips to the drive-thru. The hands-down authority on once-a-month cooking, Frozen Assets gives you a step-by-step plan to simplify and revolutionize the way you cook.

Learn to Cook New England Recipes with this Huge, Hugely-Discounted Cookbook

This book has 6 reviews at Amazon. Six reviews is too little to get a real accurate idea of how good or bad a book is. When the number of reviews is small, I like to go to the author's page at Amazon and find out how many books that the author has written, that are at Amazon, and how highly rated those books are. People are generally consistent, and I feel that what they have done in the past is a pretty good predictor of what they will do in the future. Well, the author of this book, Brooke Dojny, has written many cookbooks and they are all generally very highly rated. Based upon that and other things, I think that this is probably a very good cookbook.

New England Home Cooking: 350 Recipes from Town and Country, Land and Sea, Hearth and Home (America Cooks). By Brooke Dojny. Rated 4 1/2 stars, but from only 6 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $18.95; digital list price $18.95; Kindle price now $2.99. Harvard Common Press, publisher. 672 pages.

Book Description
A witty, authoritative, and comprehensive celebration of cooking in the New England style with over 350 recipes for soups, salads, appetizers, breads, main courses, vegetables, jams and preserves, and desserts. Brooke Dojny, a native New Englander, has adapted traditional recipes to modern tastes by streamlining cooking methods and adding contemporary ingredients. She has also included such Yankee classics as North End Clams Casino, Wellfleet Oysters on the Half Shell with Mango Mignonette, Hashed Chicken with Dried Cranberries, Maine-Style Molasses Baked Yellow-Eyes, New England Cobb Salad, Shaker Whipped Winter Squash with Cape Cod Cranberries, Wood-Grilled Steak au Poivre with a Vegetable Bouquet, Pan-Seared Venison Steaks with Peppery Beach Plum Sauce, Succulent Braised Chicken Portuguese Style, Little Italy Calamari in Spicy Red Sauce, Grilled Chive-Tarragon Lobster, Reach House Blueberry Cobbler, and Chocolate Bread and Butter Pudding.

Routledge, publisher. 120 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Vocational-Edu...t+Education%29.

Book Description
This book examines the ways in which formal and non-formal education can contribute to mature and possibly illiterate women’s successful design, development and operation of small businesses in rural settings. Calling on varied yet pertinent social theories, and the exceptional introduction to and study of profitable businesses operated by Dongxiang Muslim women in the southern Gansu province of north-western China, the author explains the multifaceted formula for women's challenges and successes in their business endeavours and goal for financial security, and argues that informal learning is the most important type of education to employ knowledge and skills to earn a living in general, and design and operate small businesses by women in rural areas in particular. The book concludes with an original, timely and necessary model for education that could be utilized by the women in this work; one that positions informal education as the primary conduit for successful entrepreneurial work and combines elements of both formal and non-formal educational principles and practices, thus offering support for the successful operation of women's businesses.
This does not sound that appetizing to me.
