The first half dozen are good. After that they get progressively worse until they're completely unreadable, in my view.

How about Sherlock Holmes (Holmes and Watson)?

You could try a Study in Scarlet and participate in the MR Book Club; kill two birds with one stone.

When the werewolf, Loup Garou, appears, close the book and never, ever read another word Cornwell wrote. It's pretty much that simple.

I agree with you entirely. Goodness only knows what made her decide to change her writing style, but whatever it was, the result was a disaster.

I persevered, and finally gave up on the second to last one published, but kind of wished I hadn't bothered. They got progressively downbeat and thus rather tedious.

I also think her other series are awful (Winston Garano and Andy Brazil) and I just couldn't read them, almost from the beginning.

I think I remember him. A former neighbor of mine (now deceased) got me started on her books by loaning a couple of them to me. I enjoyed those I've read, though I am certain I haven't read all of them.

Maybe with her personal life back on track she can get back to a style that she used early in the series. I did enjoy reading the first few.

I gave up after reading the first four. They started to become contrived.

It's when she switched to writing in the present tense that I finally gave up on her. I find it completely unreadable for a novel.
