replace a part of the title

Hi

I have a long list of books that have this name:

title vol. 1
title vol. 2
title vol. 3

how do I replace "vol." with "-?
I want it to be called:

title - 1
title - 2
title - 3

@Lauraq - you can use the Bulk metadata edit->Search and Replace feature to do what you want - this should get you started:

Name:	Capture.JPG
Views:	180
Size:	120.4 KB
ID:	138554

Suggest you backup your library first - bulk S&R especially on the Author and Title columns are potentially dangerous.

@Lauraq
  1. Set Search Mode to Character Match
  2. Check Case Sensitive
  3. Set Apply function after replace to Blank
  4. click on the Search field bar - select 'title' - near the bottom of list
  5. In Search for enter the character(s) you want to replace - 'vol.'
  6. In Replace with enter the character(s) you want to substitute - '-'

Don't worry about the multiple-value fields parameters they don't apply

If the Test results are as you want them - click the Apply button. If they're not then take a screen shot and post here with explanation of what's wrong.

Ah, ah - looks like you had success

It is not simple because this is an advanced feature.

It is doing Open Heart (DB) Surgery, not a kiss on an 'ow-y'
One slip and the patient may not survive, or at least be crippled for life.

BACKUP first
do not try for a 'All in One Shot' solution. Pick a specific metadata issue and fix that.

Apply to a tiny test case of books

Verify the reslts

do more/the rest
