Quotes become question marks in RTF output

I have an epub that I want to convert to RTF, so I can format it the way I like. When Calibre converts the file, all " and ' become ?. How can I prevent that?

I tried converting to lrf first (which works fine) and then to RTF --- with the same result.

Thanks.

It's probably a problem with encodings and/or fonts. Are you sure the font you are using to view the RTF supports oriented (not straight) quotes?

RTF output does not support any non ascii characters. The EPUB is most likely using curly quotes which are not ascii characters. Use the "Transliterate unicode to ASCII" option in look and feel when converting.

The Transliterate option did it. Thanks very much!
