Deal (Kindle/Nook)- The Lord of The Rings $10
Amazon and Barnes and Noble are having a sale on the ebook One Volume edition of The Lord of The Rings. I believe it contains all 3 parts as well as an appendix and other information about the book.
It's a pretty good deal. The Fellowship of The Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King are usually priced $7-9 each. No idea how long this sale will be going on. |

There's a pronunciation guide w/ alphabet in my 50th Anniversary edition (not from either of these, though). I checked the front section of this one and it appears identical to mine, though, so I suspect there isn't any change from the one I bought from fictionwise, a while back.

It's not up to Amazon (or even the publisher, often). It's the author (in this case the estate) that assigns copyright per country to the publishers.

At Kobo as well.
I checked out Kobo to see what price they're charging for this book. It is $12.39. However, I just purchased this using my 35% off coupon. It worked out to be less than at Amazon or B&N.

Here is a screen capture of the contents showing what appendixes are included. I hope this answers your question.

You're right of course. That said, there's an increasing sense that Amazon is more U.S. focused all the time amongst many Canadians I talk to. For example, we still don't have even a hint of a release date for the Kindle Fire in Canada (we were the second market to get the Kindle), and only just got the Kindle Touch (and the Wifi version only, not the 3G). So we're becoming a little sensitive on the topic, even in situations where it's not Amazon's fault.

Australian price, 17.38.
So 70% more expensive. Even worse than the usual Murdoch minion ripoff. 11.86 in New Zealand. |

Yeah, which is also a ripoff.

I don't consider it to be a "ripoff" in the slightest at that price. I paid about 6x that for my most recent hardback edition. I consider it to be one of the greatest books ever written; it's a bargain at that price.

At a 30% premium to the paperback you'd be in the minority there I believe.

Does the single volume paperback edition you're comparing it with include the appendices? Many do not.
