Rather then use the CNN mobile main page, I went down a level and only downloaded categories I was interested in. While the CNN mobile link no longer works, and virtually all the subcategories are no longer updated, one subcategory is still being maintained. I don't know how much longer that will continue. CNN Top Stories can still be found at:

The new CNN International channel is:

http://mobile.cnn.com/avantgo/

Unfortunately, their server checks whether your access is originating from the Avantgo Server - and if it is not, they'll deny access to the page

So unless you hack their server or spoof Avantgo's IP, there is no way to receive the official CNN mobile beside using Avantgo.

That's too bad. Even though I have an Avantgo account, I stopped using it when they dropped Mac support.

I just can't understand their reason for doing that... For one, CNN will have to pay AvantGo to get their channel included, and they limit viewership to any Ad that they may have. Unless they will start charging for their channels soon and you would need a username/password/subscription to get their content....Hopefully NOT.

Don't think it matters much. I looked at the sample content for the CNN page on Avantgo. Its nowhere near what it used to be. The Yahoo news page is better.

Avantgo is way too much of a memory hog, even when you do store the pages offline. I just can't spare that kind of memory!

So now that the PQA pages have also vanished from the world of mobile news is anyone aware of a working link that I can use to download CNN news?

After some thinking and tinkering, the light came on: Web pages don't NEED to be handheld friendly for iSilo to be able to load them! With a little time and effort it should be possible to get cnn.com onto a PDA using iSilo's various features (link depth, table formatting and URL filters). We've just been spoiled by the existence of pages that have been pre-formatted into a handheld friendly layout.

A challenge eh?

Most of the time, the problem is those links in the left side. If it's a frame, you might be able to filter it out, if not... it will result in a huge file... I think the new shareware Mobipocket is better at plucking just the needed content...
