Please Help with FBReader!!

I installed FB reader on my Nokia 770 and can't get it to find an e-book?

I loaded two .pdb files (Plucker files, which I understand the program reads) onto my memory card. I then transferred the files (I tried both a ZIP file and the .pbd ) to Documents, but I can't find the files.

What directory do you set FB reader to look for Books? There is no My Docs directory as listed in the default directory? Do I create a certain directory in File mgr?

I've only had my Nokia 770 for 2 hours so I may be a little ignorant!!
Thanks

This seems to be a bug. I'm looking at it to see how to fix it.

Sorry for this bad experience.

Thanks, but I'm now a little confused. What is the bug youre referring to?

Is it reading of pdb files or the fact that I can't specify a directory?

How exactly are others using it? I saw post ( with screenshots) of someone using it with Plucker files?

I guess what I want to know is what directory do I specify on a fresh N-700 with factory settings and no user added directories?

I would love to able to view at least some kind of e-book tonight, even if it's just a text file. You see I'm trying to decide whether to keep the Nokia 770 or not. I'm not impressed with its web capabilities, but if I cold read e-books, I think I would keep it.

I;m impressed with the open platform and people like you who support it.

thanks

The bug is that FBReader cannot get to Documents directory.

By default, FBReader on Maemo looks for books in two directories -- Books (which is on the same level as Documents) and Books subdirectory on your MMC card. Books from these two directories should appear in the library view. However this will only happen for books in FB2. The reason is that in other formats (txt, html, plucker) meta information is not always available, as result it would be impossible to show something reasonable in the library.

Ok, back to the bug, the Documents directory is /home/user/MyDocs/.documents, FBReader currently does not show files and directories that start with '.'. This is going to be fixed.

(Sorry, I could not answer yesterday, I already went sleeping )

Found a converter to FB2.

I have found a converter for FB2 at freeware.brothersoft.com. I am downloading it now. It is called Book2Shelf. Download is very slow.

How To Convert Palm .pdb To FB2

Find a program called DocReader. This will read Palm "doc" files. Not all files with the .pdb extension are "doc" files. The accompanying comments from your download source will usually make it clear if it is. I found a test file on Memoware.

DocReader can save the file in .txt format. Next find a utility called BookDesigner40. This utility imports a number of formats including .txt and converts to a number of other formats including FB2. It's maintained on a Russian site and finding the download link can be tricky.

Fill in all the critical meta data. Only a few fields are really required. Click on the Start button. Bingo. You have an fb2 file.

Caveat: It's late at night and I haven't yet loaded my file into the 770.

Both utilities are freeware.

Hello,

this bug is now fixed in version 0.7.2. Documents folder is now visible as /home/user/MyDocs/.documents
