Hi Geekette70, et al,

I'm probably showing my age, but as a teenage reader I was very fond of Desmond Bagley's works (High Citadel and The Golden Keel were higlights). so too, Alistair McLean (Night Without End was one I read twice).

A more modern author would be Matthew Reilly, particularly Ice Station.

Larry Niven's works may also prove attractive.

Around that age I did read some Jules Verne. T. H. White's The Once and Future King was hard for me to put down, despite being a book I had to read for high school!

My sixteen-year-old son loves Robin Hobb's books. But he finds Stephen King boring (can you believe that?? lol) He also likes The Restaurant at the End of the Universe and all of those books in the series.

There's one strange one that I never thought he'd like - Speak by Laurie Anderson. But he loved that book. Go figure...

Heres a few I remember reading when I was fifteen:
A Walk Acroos America- Peter Jenkins

Clockwork Orange- Anthony Burgess

A Wrinkle in Time- Madeleine Lengle

Fahrenheit 451- Ray Bradbury

I think the easiest way to get a 15 year old male to enjoy reading would be leaving a copy of Fight Club laying around. I wasnt 17 till I got my hands on that but, it is literally perfect for teenage boys...... mothers be damned.

Absolutely!! I can't tell you how many male students I have who love that book. I've never read it, but I've seen the movie, and have enjoyed it immensely.

Most of the time I say "The book was better" so I look smarter than my friends, but as much as I enjoyed the book the movie was just as awesome. Different but equal.

My Side of the Mountain Trilogy (My Side of the Mountain / On the Far Side of the Mountain / Frightful's Mountain)

Most of the books I read when I was younger had to do with running away...........

I have to say that I can't think of anything that sounds less appealing. And that is exactly what I think about my sons' video games so they may very well like this book.

My nephew likes the same books as your son and I bought him the Maze Runner by James Dashner, it is a hit! There is a sequel The Scorch Trials, and the final book will be out next year. Great series. If he likes that he would also probably love the Hunger Games, although it is written from the main females protagonists POV, there isn't really much if any romance in it.

The book Never After is pretty popular for boys that age as well. It is a modern take on the Peter Pan tale, but twisted.

Not the greatest attempt at literature, but give the kid a break he was like 16 when he wrote it. Nevertheless, he got older and the books got worse, or maybe it just wasnt cute anymore. Anyway stick to the first one.

Marine Sniper:
A true story about Carlos Hathcock, one bad mo'fo and Charles Henderson perfectly paints the picture.

Do you know the author on this one? It sounds interesting. There are several "Never After" books, and I couldn't pin down which one you were referring to.
