Amazon.com Books in our Sony Reader?

Hi!

I've just received my Sony PRS-900 and I was looking for some good ebooks to fill it.

The problem is that even though I've checked the list of online ebook shops in that same forum, none of those stores seem to be selling the books I want.

My question is: How hard/viable is it to download an ebook in amazon.com for a Kindle device and read it in my PRS-900¿

Thanks for your help!

You have to de-drm it and convert it to epub. It's now hard, I've been doing it for a while, but it does take some effort and knowledge of what you are doing.

i have the 900 too. I have also found many book are not available as Epub that are older books.
Check the following places for books
1. Sony's books web site
2. Under Sony books, click on Google books on the screen on the right hand side.
3. Booksonboard.com is a good place to download books that will work with your E Reader.

There are conversion things you would have to do at Amazon that are a pain. I would suggest sticking to the 3 options I gave.

And what can I do if I can't find the book in any of those options either?

If you don't mind, what book(s) are you looking for? Is it newer or older?

Without knowing the book you want it's hard to say. You can try Kobo, they sell a lot of their books in ePub (Adept DRM) which will work on the Sony.

Following this site might give you some more information what it takes to get things from Amazon. Of course once something no longer has DRM it's easy to have Calibre or some other program convert it to epub.

Hi!

Sorry for the delay. I'm looking for various books. Some of those are:
  • "Confessions of a public speaker" by Scott Berkun
  • "Making things happen" by Scott Berkun
  • "Bringing nothing to the party" by Paul Carr
  • "Man's search for meaning" by Viktor E. Frankl
  • "Rapt" by Winifred Gallagher
  • "Bad Astronomy: Misconceptions and Misuses Revealed, from Astrology to the Moon Landing "Hoax" by Philip C. Plait
  • "Don't you have time to think?" by Richard P. Feynman
  • "The Search: How Google and Its Rivals Rewrote the Rules of Business and Transformed Our Culture" by John Batelle
  • "How I became stupid" by Marting Page
  • "The Thermodynamics of Pizza" by Harold J. Morowitz

and many more, but I obviously have pasted enough : )

I don't see these listed for the Kindle

The first two are O'reilly books and I'm pretty sure the Kindle versions don't have DRM so those could be purchased and converted easily, since O'Reilly themselves charge so much. Someone else can probably confirm that though.

A few of these also may not be showing up only temporarily in some of the independent stores (Fictionwise, Books On Board, Diesel, etc.) due to the Agency 5 pricing setup still being worked out.

Some of these sources might need Geographic Restriction workarounds to buy from. Some were available in more than the store I listed.

http://inkmesh.com/ is a good place to search a bunch of stores at once.

And people wonder why I think DRM is bad?

Any Wiley e-book you purchase from this site will come with certain restrictions that allow Wiley to protect the copyrights of its products. After you purchase and download this title, you:
* May use the provided link to download the file up to 6 times onto different computers. This link is accessible in the My Account section of this web site or from the original e-mail.
* Must download it within 14 days of purchase
* May not move the file to a different computer <-- note this one
* May not lend, sell or give the e-book to another user
* May not copy the e-book file
* May copy/paste anything up to a page of text, 15 pages total, per year
* May not copy/paste diagrams, figures, or artwork
"May not move the file to a different computer" is a real nice one. So, you download it within the 14-day window to your one-and-only computer, 15 days from now said computer craps out ... and you've just lost your book. Or books. Or library.

Friends don't let friends buy DRM'd ebooks.
