iBooks on iPad to be U.S. ONLY???
Wotcha folks.
Well, unless they reverse this at launch and it's US only at present while they negotiate with other publishers, there goes any reason why I'd want an iPad. In grey small print at the bottom of this page - http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/ it says: 1. iBooks available in the U.S. only. An Ebook reader that can also do the email / web / movies / casual games on a nice big screen? GREAT! I want one! A big Ipod Touch? Forget it. |

Hardly unexpected. Just like the Kindle was US only at launch. Heck, for that matter, the iTunes Store was US only for its first year or so.
It will inevitably take time to negotiate international deals with these things. In the mean time, Apple are dealing with their home market first. That's only common sense. |

The arguments are just beginning here about the fact the iPad needs modules for camera, USB and keyboard to be plugged in, plus no ibook access. The shine is not so bright now it seems.

any bluetooth keyboard will work fine. And I dont want those things so am happier to pay $499 without them than $599 with them. if this device ahd in fact of been $599 no one would have blinked, it was expected to be more. whilst ALL companies are charging for accesories Apple will do it to, $45 nexus desk dock anyone? |

I was looking on a direct price comparison basis, and given you'll want a cover for the iPad that was a fair comparison.

Are you sure the ipad will only have books available in the US? I just got an email from Kobo (which I buy some ebooks from and I am Canadian)that states
" There are lots of new and exciting changes happening in the eReading world, especially with the launch of the new Apple iPad tablet. Kobo has been working around the clock to develop our FREE iPad app that will launch with the iPad in 60 days - check out a few images of our prototypes below!" |

And i expect that they will roll the iBookstore out to other countries when they settle licensing etc. It took them some time to make the iTunes music store available in many countries.

I bet they are already working on it. For sure, who doesn't want to penetrate the global market?
