Book number in a series

Ok, some books are a series of books and using Calibre you can assign a series title and a book number. But how can you set up either Calibre or your Nook to show which is the next book in a series?

For example, Harry Potter. Those books are not called Harry Potter #1, Harry Potter #2, and Harry Potter #3. They have titles. But if you are not familiar with the names of the books you need to do a look up on Amazon or Barnes & Noble's website to see which book is the next ones in your series.

Take a look at "plugboards" in Calibre. This is a feature which allows you to automatically prefix the title of the book with a series name and number.

Eg, if Harry Potter eBooks were legally available, which of course they aren't, you could have:

Harry Potter 1 - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

or whatever.

The series name and number will be automatically written to the book when you transfer it to your reader.

And if you are like me and need a little more help with the plugboard, it looks like this. You can copy and paste it in.

{series} {series_index:0>2s| - | - } {title}

I do this but manually. Glad to know there is an easier way. My problem is if I do this to my B&N or Kobo books the cover won't show. Stripped books are fine, but I really dont want to have to do that just so the covers show up.

You can also use one of the many readers available post-root that support this feature. CoolReader, for instance, will display series info.
