Anathem is a standalone book and not part of a series. However, I don't think it is one of his best books.

Aha, maybe I should read it then. I though it was the start of a new multi-thousand-page series.

I think this development makes sense. Very good books should be available in e-format, as its a new and rapidly expanding field.
