I just added you as a friend, Julie

I think this was a bad, bad idea.

Yea, I paid the $25 to become a lifetime member.

I like being able to compare with all the legacy libraries... that was pretty cool. Also, I think the SMS interface.

Oh well, shelfari won't impost csv files, they will only import tab delimited files.

I'm now trying to convert...

That's easy enough to fix.

Export to csv
Open the file in Excel
Save the file as a tab delimited file.

Yeah, except I'm running Linux, and so far Open Office Calc won't play nice!

Still looking though...

Accepted!

It took me about 10 days to inventory all my books. Luckily I had created a list in Excel some time ago that included over 400 books, so that gave me a pretty good jump start on the project.

As long as I am diligent about adding new books when I get them it should be easy enough to maintain.

If you email me your list, I'll convert to a tab delimited file.

OK, downloaded Gnumeric, that did the trick.

I have to say though, I think I like goodreads better. the ability to search Amazon for books is pretty handy.

Shelfari had no idea who Ford Madox Ford was, and had never heard of "The Good Soldier"!!

Well hopefully you won't get bombarded with me adding tons of crap

I have a spreadsheet are started in July (with all the romance titles I could think of so I didn't buy doubles), and then my old website where I reviewed fantasy. That gave me a good 300. Now I'm just trolling around adding if I see something I read.

What makes it worse is I have so much to read yet. *sigh*

Yeah, I know what you mean....I have a ton of books in my collection that I have not read and honestly, I had forgotten I even had many of those books. But it's nice to finally have a fairly comprehensive booklist and one that is accessible from my cellphone. So, now I can check to see if I've already got the book before I buy it again (I really hate that).

Stay away from Shelfari. I tried it. It's awful. The people that run it don't care. It allows serious errors to be made when someone adds a book and those erros carry over even if you try to add in the book yourself. Also, I did send in a report and found that the people that run the site totally unresponsive. All in all, once you hit one of these sorts of errors, it totally ruins your library. So just delete your account and call it a day.

So which is better... Goodreads or Librarything? Shelfari is already off the list due to being really poor as I've explained in my previous message.

I have an account at all three -- LibraryThing, Shelfari, and Goodreads. The one that I spend the most time keeping up with is Goodreads. I activated the application that relays my Goodreads updates to Twitter, and I find it useful. What I wish is that I could sync all three.

Do yourself a favor and cancel your Shelfari account. That way you'll only have to worry about 2 sites instead of 3.
