I didn't think Outlander was any more preposterous than The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, for example. Both kept me turning the pages. Great literature, no. Escapist entertainment, yes.

Dude, that was exactly my opinion when I first read it wayyy back when. Many years later [ca. 1990?] I read a review that was more a critique by Neil Gaiman in Knave magazine, which went pretty far to show how undiscerning and easily entertained I am.

So, I could hardly rebut Gaiman's well-reasoned points, and how did a Brit girlie mag wind up on the desk in my office at work anyway?
