Even Apple doesn't want to rely on their own maps where it really counts:

Berlin pretty much belongs in Antarctica, for example, since it spends much of the time there anyway, as does most of Germany. I do not know where Gothenburg is, and that has not changed under Apple Maps - no harm, no foul. London has been flattened many times in the past, so to find it flattened in modern times should be no surprise. So what has really happened is that Apple Maps does not confine itself to replicating "reality". It improves reality. You should consider Apple Reality as an upgrade to the previous reality. Reality iOS6 - if it's not on Apple Maps, you don't need to go there. |

I used to, but getting out every 3 feet to move the map ahead of the car became a pain in the fundamenal. And eventually the tire tracks obscured the details on the map. In rainy weather, they disintegrated pretty fast. I tried switching to plasticized maps, but they were slippery when wet, and on several occasions I slid into adjacent states. Then I would have to buy a new map at service stations which no longer carry maps.
On the whole, it is simpler and more efficient to get lost with Apple Maps. |

Yes. As someone who lives in one of the towns that Apple has decided doesn't exist, I am fully expecting the Apple helicopters to start the strafing and napalming at any second.

Edit: or maybe it will require a Move to Trash. But you are probably already there, so it looks like Empty Trash is in order, Bilbo. Bilbo? Bilbo? oh well... Last edited by Harmon; 09-27-2012 at 06:17 PM. |

I really do not want to pay AU$120 per annum for map updates for my aging Garmin GPS unit.
So I use an excellent app called Metroview on my iPhone which cost me AU$24 with lifetime free updates. Better deal all round really. BTW, Apple maps at least has our house located correctly, so it is a start! |

The new Apple maps app is surprisingly much more accurate for the area in Croatia where I live than the Google app was/is. I am happy with the new app, and I can always use Google maps in my browser if I ever feel the need, so I am happy with the upgrade overall.
