Free (Kindle/Sony/Nook) Murder Over Easy by Marshall Cook [Probably Cozy Mystery]

Murder Over Easy, 1st in the Monona Quinn Mystery series by Marshall Cook, is free courtesy of Adams Media's Tyrus imprint.

This is rather cozy-looking (it certainly has the requisite cutesy pun-filled title and and domestically handicrafty profession/small-business for the amateur sleuth in the blurb), but one of the reviews compares it to Sue Grafton and Elmore Leonard, so YMMV as it may just be a regular small-town murder mystery.

Currently free @ Amazon UK, will probably drop in the main store and show up elsewhere.

Description
Melvin Arbuckle, Wanda Nell's boss at the Kountry Kitchen, has been arrested for killing a waitress with an unsavory reputation. Convinced of Melvin's innocence, Wanda Nell puts herself on the trail of a ruthless killer--and almost gets her goose cooked.

I recently gave some Karma to ATDrake. What I really like about his/her postings is the extra comments added. These days it's relatively easy to find free books, but the difficulty is figuring out if they might be interesting.

This post is exemplerary. It discusses the book, explains what it is about, and mentions the reactions of a reviewer.

Thanks again.

Isn't this a violation of the exclusive contract with Amazon? Or is there a grace period for removal of books?

Exclusivity is only for indie authors and tiny presses using KDP and putting their books in the KLL.

Not for larger publishers.

ETA: Larger publishers are also encouraged to add books to the KLL, but they don't have the exclusivity clause in their contracts (since those are the books Amazon wants in the KLL, while the KDP books give them the numbers for boasting, just as public domain books boost numbers in all the press releases by all the competing stores).

I know nearly zero about how it works, but I had the idea that there are two kinds of freebies at Amazon and I assumed that this isn't the exclusive kind. Did the exclusive-or-else replace the old freebie system, or do authors have a choice about it?

Edit: Ah, that makes sense now. Thanks, Karen!

I totally agree with you.

It doesn't take much intelligence to do a copy/paste.

ATDrake does more - much more - and enlivens the discussion. The posts are interesting, informative, and helpful.
