Library Books on Kindle

Have some library books you want to put on your kindle? Disappointed because most libraries have encrypted PDFs, which cannot be read on the kindle? You may not need to spend $100 for a New York Public Library card. Depending on what you like to read, your free public library may have all the books you want to read, except they are in PDF.

Well, look here:

BTW, I have found after decrypting, Mobipocket Creator was the easiest to reformat for kindle.

Don't forget that stripping DRM from books you own is generally thought to be illegal in the US and many other places. Stripping DRM from lending library ebooks is if anything even more dubious. Even if you delete the ebook after the lending period this probably isn't the same thing legally as leaving the DRM in place.

My own opinion is that the only legitimate purpose of DRM is to "prevent" widespread piracy. It does not even do this, but by this standard stripping DRM from ebooks (including lending library ebooks) for personal use is harmless. In the case of lending library ebooks, you are borrowing ebooks more than if the DRM remained intact and so there might be more library ebooks sold.

My personal opinion is if you have bought the e-book you can do whatever you want with it (as long as you don't share it). Of course the legal situation depends on your country you're living in.
