Very Inefficient!
Why close thread? Just ban errant posters from the thread!

That is the best idea I have heard on this Forum.
I hope the powers that be take action on it. |

Might be a good idea. Might not. Sometimes threads just need to be closed.
Point us at the thread you're complaining about. |

I'm not sure most boards' code supports thread-level banination.

The threads that say something not very flattering to Apple. Those are the ones that get the most flak. The most moderator intervention. Has any other than that been closed? At least on the "News" section. |

Because banning has much more serious consequences than just closing a thread. And I am glad that the moderators "invented" the temporary suspending before finally banning a member.

There was a moderator notice, people ignored it, the thread got closed. In the cases where threads are closed because the debate went of the rails, there is usually at least one moderator notice that precedes the closure. |

In the latest closed thread the mods have beaten themselves: five minutes between warning and closing might be a new record!

No beating. We were still discussing and reviewing that particular thread I think you're talking about. Ultimately we came to the conclusion that the thread served no useful purpose and turned into a direction that is not what we're striving for.

I agree and I didn't want to question the decision at all. I just found it funny/impressive how fast it went from warning to closing.

Back in the day when I ran a marble collectors forum, one of the most difficult jobs I had as the single administrator was deciding what threads should be allowed to continue and which should be shut down.
While I don't always agree with admin/mod decisions, I've always believed that it's "Your Forum, Your Rules". |
