I fourth Fifth Business and The Grapes of Wrath.

That's three votes - do I have a fourth? If so, I'll second A Separate Peace.

I've run out, but I love A Separate Peace and would support it. I suppose I don't really need to read it again though.

Thank you! I'm a bit hazy about the rules, as you can tell.

...and I'll nominate Rabbit, Run by Updike.

Quote:
It's 1959 and Harry 'Rabbit' Angstrom, one time high school sports superstar, is going nowhere. At twenty-six he is trapped in a second-rate existence - stuck with a fragile, alcoholic wife, a house full of overflowing ashtrays and discarded glasses, a young son and a futile job. With no way to fix things, he resolves to flee from his family and his home in Pennsylvania, beginning a thousand-mile journey that he hopes will free him from his mediocre life. Because, as he knows only too well, 'after you've been first-rate at something, no matter what, it kind of takes the kick out of being second-rate'.

I was looking at Rabbit, Run as a potential nomination along with A Visit from the Goon Squad. Again - run out of nominations.

Looks like some great books being put up for nomination this month - some modern literature as well as some American classics.

Well, I'm on board for Canada/US.

I'm nominating:

Finnie Walsh by Steven Galloway. A Canadian topic by a Canadian author. I've read two other Galloway novels and both were very good.

There's about a half day left for nominations.

This month is producing some really fantastic nominations. I'd support Rabbit, Run and Finnie Walsh if I had any more votes left.

ETA - And, here it is half a day later and nominations are now closed with seven fully nominated books. The poll will be up shortly.
