The way I see it is this...
We get the initial vote. People vote for what they want up to a point. Then when others come along and see what's in front, they may not vote for what they want most as they'll feel their vote would be a wasted vote. So the vote will go to one of the frontrunners instead. Now I cannot say how many people would not have voted for one of the frontrunners, but even if one person (like The Terminator), votes against what he/she really wants, then the vote is not actually accurate. I'm not for votes by PM at all, I think participation would drop quite a bit using that method.

I went ahead and did a new conversion. I had added the metadata into the first one, but "by H.G. Wells" was still in the title, and I wanted to clean up the title of the work as well.

I won't participate if I have to PM my vote. Just being honest. |

I'm against voting by PM.
I don't think the system is broken in any case. In addition, aside from the (unnecessary) nuisance of voting by PM, someone with a horse in the race shouldn't be able to make himself beancounter. A mixed metaphor, but people will get what I mean. I like the current system. I think strategic voting results in more participation and I like seeing how people vote, also. I prefer to keep the vote as it is now. Voting for another book you want to read because your first choice is obviously out of the running is just as valid a reason as any other.
