Okay seriously "Tha Hobbit" on Kindle

I fixed it with Mobi2Mobi, but hopefully a real fix will be forthcoming.

I noticed that the books are described as written by J.R.R. Tolkien and Christopher Tolkien both on Amazon page. I was aware that Christopher Tolkien edited and put together many of his father's incomplete writings, but Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy were released by J.R.R. Tolkien alone.

I'm curious, are there changes to the text, significant enough to warrant adding Christopher Tolkien as a co-author?

OK, I just ordered Children of Hurin from HarperCollins, in Mobi format. I'll tell you more tomorrow about quality, when I'll try it on my Cybook.

Well, he presumably formatted the ebook editions. But once you own the rights you can pretty much put whatever name you want on it.

I believe he finished the writing on Children of Hurin

LOL

Yep, I just had the sample of "Tha Hobbit" delivered to my Kindle2. Not sure if I'm going to read them all again or not. This would make the fourth time (though it's been 15 years since the last read).

Too expensive. I can get a used paperback copy for a 1/3 of this. Yes, I don't have an ereader at this time, but even if I did I would not buy this. The whole trilogy would be over $30 easy and I can get it all, in hardback if I wanted, for far less than that. I have a used store in town with over 1 million used books and they have tons of these.

Ebooks must be cheaper to win the masses. But yes, it is good news to see if finally coming at all.

Actually, once it's available, the omnibus will be about $15. Seems like a pretty reasonable price for 3 books.

I already own several copies of LotR -- a leatherbound, the illustrated anniversary edition, and a 3 volume softcover. Having it on my Kindle is well worth $15 to me.

Dude, they JUST... CAME... OUT. This is how business works. You get all the people willing to pay the higher price first, then you lower your prices to appeal to more and more customers. In a year or two they'll be as cheap as your used paperbacks.

Actually, I think ebook devices have to become a lot cheaper (sub $200) for ebooks to gain in popularity with the masses.

The prices of the ebooks don't bother me as there's advantages to having the book in electronic format (convenience, availability, space, etc.)

To get back on topic, I'm glad that these books are now "legally" available and not a temptation for those who may otherwise have obtained pirated copies.

Yeah! Thank you! (and $2 cheaper on Amazon than the publisher)

Yep. Proudly announcing the availability at http://www.fictionwise.com/lotr.htm "For a limited time, get a 100% MicroPay Rebate on all J.R.R. Tolkien titles" I guess that makes up for the higher price than at Amazon.
