Firmware Update can we get some consolidation of the 2.5 upgrade threads (any moderator?)

the front page of the Kindle section is a train wreck. there are 12, well now 13 thread dealing with the upgrade. back when we had the seperate sections, it wasn't like this.

any help? anyone?

It does seem this forum could use either some sub-sections again or topic tagging as done in other forums - everything is now jumbled together.

People are free to arrange their threads in any way that they wish; this is a discussion forum, not a research institute, where everything has to be neatly categorised . If you think that it would be helpful to others, why don't you summarise the information contained in the various threads, and write an article for the wiki?

that's not the point of the post. the point is, under the previous set up, all of these redundant threads would have had one nice neat little category to go into. now there are an over-abundance of these threads making it difficult to find new information.

and there still is the continuing problem with people new to the forum and/or Kindle ownership asking for (for instance, this is not the only subject), what's the best cover...??? before, under the previous set-up it was easy to see those topics and refer newcomers to them. this way SUCKS donkey parts. when we complained earlier we were told to try it for awhile. we have. we don't like it. and I'm not using the royal we, my PM box supports the view

We are not going to go back to using sub-fora, but if you'd like to create an appropriate list of thread prefixes that people can use, we'll be happy to add those. The tagging system is also there to allow you to tag a thread of particular interest, and then search for it. Anyone can add a tag to a thread, not just the original poster.

Note, though, that simple factual information (such as a list of available covers) is much better off in the wiki than in the forum. That way, it doesn't scroll out of view, and is easy to locate. We encourage everyone to add information to the wiki - it's there to be used.

I have mixed feelings about the sub-fora, yes it's a good way to store data, but it is also a terrible way to communicate, and the latter is the primary focus of any Forum. What typically happens in sub forums is they don't get visited to often and then the synergy of communication is strangled.

Speaking of tags, Harry can you add a "Firmware" tag or "FW Update" so people can tag the all 2.5 and future updates appropriately?

So... you just would have the mess some where else. How is that better?

If you see duplicate threads... post in that thread a link to the original thread on the topic and report the thread so we can close it. Once that is done that thread will fall to the bottom of the list pretty quickly.

new people rarely know about the wikis.

once again, a "for instance" the Kindle accessories sub was referred to and used constantly for new people or recent neat discoveries

... Also... having 11 stickies here is kind of silly. Perhaps that can be paired down. Those that want to help clean things up could perhaps come up with 3-4 threads that could be sticked....

... if one thing that is constantly posted is about Covers perhaps there should be a sticked thread about covers / accessories.

I never mentioned the WIKI's page, since I rarely use them. Though referring somebody to a sub-forum in my mind is the same referring them to a WIKI page. Personally I find many Subform threads and WIKI pages to be out of date. Chances are most people will post a new thread because their too lazy to look or feel the old threads are stale.


What I was referring to was their filter threads where you can hide/enable posts based on the prefix. See the Sony/Apple/eBook Sub-Forums for an example

You can add a tag to any thread yourself; we don't need to do it for you.
