To What Genre does [Insert Title] Belong?

There are many sites available where one can look up a genre and see a list of common, popular, classic, or best selling books within that genre.

Is there a site that works the other way around, where the user enters in the book title and gets a list with its genre(s)?

the only thing IMHO that labelling leads to is overseeing great books just because $_person put a genere label on it.

Only if people choose to skip certain genres, for the sake of skipping genres. For me that is not really the case; with the exception of graphic horror. I'd like to sleep at night and not have horrible images in my head - the exact same reason I avoid horror movies. Are you saying that I should suffer nightmares becuase I choose to know the genre of a book before I read it?

With http://www.shelfari.com/ you can search for a book and see how others have tagged it. Can any one guess this book? Some of the tags do not make much sense in my opinion though.

I'd have pegged the "railroad" as a dead giveaway. And speaking of "rational egoism", Bob the Angry Flower presents: Murder in Galt's Gulch!

I seem to be the only one on the planet who read The Fountainhead instead of Atlas Shrugged. In fact, it was one of my English teachers who warned me away from it (although I do not remember why). I think I'm going to have to put that on my TBR list.

The only thing I can remember now from the Fountainhead, is that one of the main characters was a redhead and that I enjoyed reading it, at the time.

Edit: Oh, Thank you for the suggestion Hoyt.

I started to say the book was The Fountainhead till I saw the "railroad" tag--the hero of The Fountainhead is an architect.

I like Atlas Shrugged much better than The Fountainhead. But it is LONG.

There's a movie of Atlas Shrugged due out soon.

of course I do not wish you disturbed sleep, Nyssa (at least not in that way - there are many more enjoyable ways for that)

But I'll give you my own ignorance as an example how the statement above was meant
having no pleasure in endless variations of:
  • patriotic $hero saves the world again
  • successfully beating the crap out of
  • hippie/gay/green/whatever communist $aliens
  • by his superiour use of $techbabble shiny weaponry
  • built by his equally patriotic $nerdfriend in his garage/cellar (because the evil gov cut the money for military research)

I avoided everything labeled mil-SF for years.
Sadly this seems the biggest label attached to the Vorkosigan Saga.

If it were not a lot of recommendations here pointing toother - far more important aspects of the plots background and characters - I'd still be ignoring a great stack of wonderful books...
