Unhappy Aldiko ebook reader not displaying CSS attributes

I have an ePub where attributes such as bold font, centered headers and so on are set by styles from a external CSS file. All of these styles show up just fine and look great on other ereader applications such as the Sigil, ADE,iBooks, and even a converted version to MOBI for the Kindle. Does Aldiko only accept inline CSS or what? I do not understand why it display the ePub the way it does. It also does a horrible job displaying images. It appears to display the images in their native size with no option to view them any other way. Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Did you go to the settings menu and tell the app to follow the publisher's CSS? There's a specific option for this.

Thanks for the reply Nate. The setting for this is called Advanced formatting. It was actually selected. Once I unchecked this option the book now displays properly. So what exactly is this Advanced formatting option for? If CSS is not considered advanced formatting what is?

"Advanced formatting" is from Aldiko's perspective, not the document's; it enables the rest of Aldiko's Advanced Formatting options.

You could make an argument for a different visible name, something like "Override document formatting" or "Override document styles", but that could still be confusing since you can change some formatting without enabling that checkbox.
