After the crash, it can serve as the coffin as well...

Coming soon to Shanghai...Sometime in 2010. The new VW single seater car. Mileage rate of 258 miles per gallon....Top speed 74 miles an hours....(HOV lane, anybody?)

(Price? Reportedly at 4000 Yuan. We'll see...)

At top speed in this state, this little toy would be run over............repeatedly.

High mileage is nice............but where is the protection? Now if all vehicles were like this, we wouldn't have to worry.

And that, in a nutshell, is the crazy 'arms war' we seem to be in with regard to cars at the moment. It's why the roads around every school are blocked by ridiculous 4x4 monsters - what self-respecting mum would drive a small car when these behemoths are all around, you might as well shoot the kid to work in a cannon!

Oh, good, so its not just in the states that this happens. My favorite gripe are the ones who arrive 1/2 hr early to get a good spot in line, and if the weather is over 75 degrees, sometimes even if it isn't, the windows are rolled up and the air is blasting. If you are parked anywhere near them, the heat from the asphalt is only intensified.

Many of these moms, dads, grandparents (Yes, I know who they are) like to brag about their 'green lifestyle'. They'll buy only free range chicken, use CFL bulbs, ........but God forbid they sit in the heat.

Not even a place to store the food from the market. No need to worry about a coffin, creamation seems to be the order of the day. This makes a go-kart look like a land cruiser.

I love this idea.

For me, America has too long been in the grip of "What kind of horsepower is it?" "How fast does it go?" "What is the 0 to 60?"

If everyone owned a vehicle that maxed out at 75mph and got 200+mpg, I think we would be better off. I also think that if people lived slower, relaxed more, worked a couple hours less per day, and walked a couple hours more per week, or sit out in the park, in the sun, read a book, listened to the birds... I think many problems that us today (high blood pressure, stress complications...) would go away, or at the least, be greatly diminished.

So yeah, bring on the "coffin' cars. It's a great step towards slower lifestyle and safer roads, and healthier living.

It looks like you would constantly bang your knees while you pedaled.

Guess those little cars can go along with these little trucks. Which are actually manufactured here in Oklahoma.

Wonder how the wipers work on a windshield of that shape.
I could see the feasibility of things like this for commuting. It's pretty ridiculous to think it would be marketed as a family car or anything for solid utility. Here in Taiwan, the vast majority of the population has 50-125cc scooters for day-to-day driving, and then of course there are also a lot of cars for inter-city trips (scooters are not allowed on the freeways). Parking can be quite tough in big cities here, and there are lots of concerns about pollution from private transportation.

Though...I'm not too sure about unleashing these wheeled cockroaches in large numbers in Chinese cities. I was almost run over twice by a bus in Beijing on the sidewalk. Simple things like curbs and humans won't slow down progress!

Use RainX. Then you won't need wipers. I use it, and even in the strongest downpour, I never need to turn on my wipers.
