Better Library

I just got one of these as my first ever ebook, and while I love it, I'm quickly learning to hate the ebook library. Are there any better library programs out there that will work with this? And is it possible to have it categorize my books by author, like how most mp3 players sort by artist? I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Welcome to the club. The program you speak of is called Calibre ( http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/download ). You won't be disappointed.

Check out Calibre. You can sort by author on the ebook library software though.

So, I'm a few weeks in and loving this thing, but I'm having problems with Caliber. For some reason, changes I make to my 700's library in caliber aren't holding. I'll show that it's updated the library, and it'll look like it's added/removed the books I wanted added/removed, but when I unplug, it just goes back to last time I edited it in sony's ebook library. Any ideas?

I don't know if this will help but, it seems as though I have read about this same problem before and it involved the no-no of using Sony Connect and calibre on the same computer or something...
I don't have experience with calibre but saw this information at the below link.

Check out the wiki on calibre, the user manual, calibre F & Q, and of course mobilread calibre section for more information.

You should not use both calibre and Connect to transfer books to the reader. You can fix this problem by:

* Removing any storage cards from your reader.
* Deleting the file media.xml from the reader’s main memory using windows explorer (search for the file to find all locations where it is present). Note that by doing this you will lose all your collections, bookmarks, history etc.
* Unplugging the reader and waiting till the list of books shows up again
* Re-connecting the reader and starting the SONY software"
