We went through a "rolling thunder" event for a while this morning. The "rain-pocalypse" that was due here in an hour or so seems to have been downgraded a bit -- still plenty of rain on the way, but the violent, straight-line winds may not be quite enough to tear the roof off.

We've been hearing reports of baseball sized hail. Now they're saying softball sized hail! And, of course, tornadoes possible. And all heading our way.

Wow! That was fast! Got home - hot (96 F), bright sun. Nuked a pizza in case power went out, turned on TV to see live radar .... then it was like someone turned off the sun! It went totally dark outside in an instant! Very still ... then the winds tore through - tree top high, then lightning, then rain, then it was gone! These storm lines are moving 45 - 60 mph.
Temps dropped 25 degrees in a half hour. Now cool and humid outside -- mosquito city! Stay safe Tom! |

Thanks, Pooh. Winds are kicking outside but no rain yet. I was in the gazebo reading for a while and expecting the wet stuff that didn't yet come. Crystal seemed fascinated by it all.

When the rains finally came they were no more than a good sprinkle, and the softball size hail was nowhere to be seen. The only thing we have to show for all this anticipation is a garage full of lawn furniture. To listen to the weather forecasters you'd have thought the apocalypse was imminent.

There were 3 deaths in NC - from falling trees. And many still without power. My area was lucky ... the worst hit Raleigh and south.

Bright and beautiful 30 minutes ago -- now, very dark with heavy rain and occasional thunder. According to radar these are also fast moving, localized storms. Interestingly, these storms are coming from the north -- and it's noticeably cooler!

Outside it's very warm, the sun is shining, and the ground is as wet as a sponge -- so it's very humid! But the cicadas don't seem to mind.

It's raining, but not hard enough to discourage the cicadas. The worst of both worlds.

All for you, cromag. Enjoy.

Last nice day (80's F with low humidity levels) before the annual "Week of July 4th Warm-Up" - by July 4th, both temps & humidity levels will be in the high 90's - for the next 3 months or so.

Same here. We're having sun showers/downpours sporadically during the day, followed by sunshine => humidity off the scale! Yikes!
