Now you add lying to the mix. You came back to do exactly what's been done here, to stir everyone up. You couched your apology in weasel words, but we all know you meant what you said, and so did Recluse. That kind of racist splurge comes from someone who knows racism deep in their heart - shit, I've been on the other end of that crap my whole life. Been fighting those attitudes as long as I've lived. You meant every single word and so did Recluse, don't lie and say you didn't. Anger can make me say all kinds of things, but no matter how amplified the emotion, it's always true.

Well, bravo, you succeeded in getting what you wanted. Your flag-waving, bible-thumping, warwmongering friends came out of the woodwork to support your psychotic little rant. You got me riled up and angry enough to walk away from a site that I once considered one of the best places on the web to visit and also made me question the friendships of people that I thought I'd come to know over the last year and a half.

1.) For myself, I never advocated censoring or banning anyone, even when that topic was still hot.

Now you know how I felt when I read the post that started all of this. The anger consumed me and I lashed out in the same way you are doing now. You are making the same mistake that I did. If you want a bit of advice from someone who has been there...put me on the ignore list and go about your day. This is a great site and you should not leave it because of my opinions.

Anger made me call my wife "flumpy" once but I did not mean it.

I didnt win anything and neither did recluse. In fact we both had to eat a lot of crow and humble ourselves a bit to the masses. He and I both believe in supporting our nation's war efforts and we are both grownup enough to understand that all war has suffering, but neither of us sees any glory in any it. I admit my statement you quoted was harsh. The question was never was it wrong to say or was it a bit racist. I admitted to that already. I admitted to that and apologized. So did recluse. So i ask what is your point? Are you saying we should leave the site?

No, like I said earlier, I didn't advocate banning anyone-- but you can't give an "apology" that isn't really an apology and expect everyone to kiss and make up, either. Especially when it is done under deceptive circumstances (yes, I honestly did click on the thread originally only because I expected cute little kittens-- the cute little kittens in the other thread are my cute little kittens.)

I'm curious to know what "other sites we both go to" you are thinking about-- I don't post on many sites, and this is the most "mainstream" of any of them. And I am no hypocrite. I'll say it up front-- I'm a liberal. I'm a (little "s") socialist. I'm an unrepentant atheist. And I think that religion is the opiate of dumbasses. I find it an eternal source of frustration that actual adults in the 21st century actually believe that magical sky fairies are real. But I (for the most part) manage to not step into unrelated threads posted by religious people on religious topics and point and laugh. I only really attack religion here to mention proponents attempting to dumb down science education. And Youtube posts? I post Youtube posts in the "favorite Youtube" thread that I find informative or funny. But IMHO there is a galaxy of difference between not pretending to respect religion and advocating the slaughter of an entire nation. I think Islam is as dumb as any other religion, but I don't advocate killing all Muslims. (But if I could snap my fingers and may all religious beliefs in the world instantly disappear, I damn sure would.)

I'm no hypocrite-- I don't say that I have the right to not be offended, but you don't. You are perfectly free to say things that I find offensive-- and I'm perfectly free to decide what I think of you as a human being from those things that you say. (As you are free to judge me from my lack of deference to superstitions.)

I never once made an apology expecting to make up with anyone, ardeegee. Every single post on this thread I stated something along the lines of

"I am not asking for anyone to "forgive" or forget what I said. I am simply asking you to leave me alone if you are going to go out of your way to bring up what happened to take a jab at me. "

I agree to a certain point with what you're saying here. To be honest though there have been times when I've said things in anger for the sole purpose of hurting someone else. I'm not proud but I've done it, on the other hand I can honestly say that I didn't mean them when I said them. I'm not saying that that is the case in any of the posts in question here I'm just pointing it out.

On the other hand (this is not addressed to you ardeegee), regardless of what was said or why, if someone is legitimately sorry for what they have said I think everyone who took offense needs to give it there best shot to accept that apology. For those who say the purpose of this thread was underhanded or done with intent of stirring things and then to call them a liar, I can only say that there is only one person that knows the intent of the post - that is poster. We can take him at his word or not, if we don't then we don't, there is no need to resort to name calling or the other blatantly personal attacks I've seen.
