What book was a total disaster when made into a film?
We know that some films are well made for example 'Jaws' or the 'Lord of the Rings.'
In your opinion what films sucked? |

Polanski's 'Tess' - based on Thomas Hardy's 'Tess of the d'Urbervilles' - I walked out half way through.

Battlefield Earth is a gimme, of course, but also the Dino DeLaurentis version of Dune, which absolutely sucked.

"The Golden Compass" - the first part of Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy. What a disappointment after years of anticipation, especially since the stage adaption (which I've seen three times now) was superb.

All movies based on Danielle Steel novels have been trash. Then again, when you start with books that are trash, it's not hard to make movies that are trash.
Jackie Collins movies are also trash based on her trashy books. Now here's a good book made into a really bad movie and a really bad mini-series.... DUNE. |

The book wasn't bad for what it was. It was written by a kid for other kids, so I won't be too harsh on it. (He seems to have read a lot of David Eddings) Even if I had not read the book 1st, the movie would have sucked. The fact that I did read the book made the movie that much suckier.
