Title page showing filename and not true book title...
When I click "Edit metadata", both Title/Title sort and Author(s)/Author sort show the correct info. Also, when I click Show Book Details, it shows the correct title and author. However, when click Edit and the book pops up, the first file (titlepage.xhmtl) shows the filename of the book. The first index file (index_split_000.html) DOES show the correct title and subtitle.
I was playing around with preferences earlier and vaguely recall clicking a checkbox that said something like "use filename for title", but for the life of me, I can't find that setting anywhere. Any ideas how to correct this? I know I could just delete the title file in the Files Browser window, but I'm not sure what impact that would have on the final book. Thanks, Andy |

You mean, if you were to open the book in the viewer, the first page talks about the filename? That is weird and almost certainly an error from wherever you got the book from.
calibre does have an option to extract metadata from the filename, but this is very different. You can safely delete the file, it is just a page in the book. You might want to use the Set Semantics tool to mark a new cover page. |

Calibre Metadata is like the old fashioned card catalog sitting in the middle of a Library.
Cards. Books on shelves. no physical connection. They just sit there. In Calibre, if you want to update a book (create a temporary connection), You need to force that to happen: Conversion, Polish, Modify EPUB (a PI) Any of these make changes to the books file IN the Library Send to device/Save to folder update the copy (but not the one IN the Library) Your other question: USE filename ... Only applies to ADD Books. This setting affects how the INITIAL book record (Library metadata) is populated. It does NOT affect the book in any way. |
