epub-meta tags

The 505 does not seem to honor these tags. Shouldn't they show up under Collections? The --authors & --title tags seem to work.

The 505 doesn't read any metadata from files beyond title and author. If you use send to device then calibre creates the neccessary metadata in the reader to map the tags to collections.

That's a 505/DE bug IMHO. If the metadata is present, the 505 should honor it. As usual, Calibre saves the day for Sony.
