Mobi2Kindle - Free app for MobiPocket conversion

Hello, all! I have published a free Mac app designed to ease the process of converting MobiPocket DRM'd e-books for use on the Kindle. This tool uses the scripts developed by igorsk, but shouldn't have any dependencies or require any command-line work - just drag and drop!

Please check out the Google Code project page for more info:
http://code.google.com/p/mobi2kindle/

I've only tested this on OS X 10.5, so any reports of compatibility with other OS's would be appreciated. Let me know if you have any other thoughts!

Based on the description, and like igorsk's kindlefix script, this does not remove DRM but instead allows DRMed MOBI ebooks registered with a Kindle PID to be read on that Kindle.

So this will primarily be useful for MOBI lending library ebooks, but will also work for OverDrive MOBI retail ebooks (e.g. some, but not all, MOBIs from Books on Board). It won't work for DRMed MOBIs sourced from mobipocket.com, which supplies most retailers, because they won't accept the Kindle PID.

I am not suggesting that the tool should do more, since the Digital Millennium Copyright Act makes it a criminal offense in the US to produce or disseminate software to circumvent DRM.

wallcraft, thanks for summing that up. Being new to the forums, I realize now that some people might be concerned about tools involving MobiPocket / DRM. You are absolutely correct in saying that this tool does NOT remove DRM.

James, Amazon issued a DMCA takedown notice for the original tools. So you'll need to edit your first post to remove the link.

Regarding kindlefix, we do not want to see detailed instruction or the hosting thereof or of related tools at MobileRead. A link to an external site that isn't a direct download link and cannot generally be considered to be infringing copyrights is acceptable.

Thanks for clarifying, Alexander. I believe the link above meets the "acceptable" criteria.
