Kindle Highlights And Notes email

I was pleasantly surprised to get this email this morning.

Quote:
Dear Amazon.com Customer,
Our customers have told us that they love being able to add highlights and notes to their Kindle books. We want to make it possible for you to access your highlights and notes directly from a Web browser too. So we've released http://kindle.amazon.com, an online tool that enables you to do just that.

To try it out, go to http://kindle.amazon.com, sign in with your Amazon account, and simply select one of your books where you have added highlights or notes.

We hope you enjoy this new feature. If you have feedback please send it to us at amazonkindle-feedback@amazon.com.

The Amazon Kindle Team
They have a list of all your kindle books, with a pencil mark icon in the right hand column to indicate you have notes or highlights in that book.

Highly useful, IMO, and it will give me good reason to increase my use of highlights and notes.

Does that only work if one has Whispernet access, or is it possible to "upload" notes from the Kindle to Amazon's site via USB?

I'm guessing it has to rely on Whispernet - and the Sync feature - that had allowed Amazon to store your books already with your notes & bookmarks. This feature just lets you look at them online.

Currently there is no upload feature (via USB or anything) available for K owners.

The only problem with this, and I emailed Amazon about this, is that it only holds
your book notes, but not notes from other media, like magazines and newspapers.
Not sure why that is, but it's an obvious limitation that needs to be resolved.

Well let's think about it. You can only do this with content that you purchased from Amazon. Why would they possibly keep that limitation?

Perhaps it has slipped your mind that you can also purchase Kindle newspapers and magazines from Amazon?

Heh, I guess this is one for the amazon team. But they are still considerably behind on the scoreboard.
