Need your help solving a Riddle!

Hi everybody,

I come to you today asking for help with a Riddle. The capital R ist intentional since this one is really hard to figure out. With the combined might of mobileread the chances might be marginally better, so I'm asking you all for your help.

The Riddle is as follows:

What does a man take along onto that famous solitary island trip?
Two things are given, a pocket knife and a pocket fan (one of these battery driven ones).

The third item is:

1) nothing to make fire
2) no lamp, radio or hanky
3) no toothbrush
4) no batteries
5) no shaving mirror

It is:

1) Something that reminds him of home (Germany, Muensterland (Muenster) is where he lives, he was born in Ibbenbueren and works in Hamburg)

2) it's size is roughly the same as the other two items.

This is a radio quiz which has been running for a while without anybody being able to figure it out. The man in question is called Holger Wemhoff and the radio station is Klassikradio.

I've tried to find an answer, but so far in vain, maybe you can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

I have no idea, but how about a wild guess??

A mp3 player with classical music .. Franz Schubert, ninth symphony, etc..

http://www.mucke-und-mehr.de/magint/wemhoff.htm

Quote:

Isn't that a bit weird - a battery driven fan, but no batteries?

Maybe he's bringing something to make it into something useful.
The fan could become a wind powered gyrocopter, so he can escape when the wind picks up. So his other item is a bundle of string to construct a harness with!!

(It reminds him of home because that's where he brought it.)

@dreams

Several people already tried that answer, but sadly it's wrong.
Good work on the research though...

He wears glasses, so he'll need a spectacle case.

It reminds him of home, because Muenster is full of spectacles!

The harmonica is out, somebody already tried that one sadly...

I like the spectacle case, but I'm not so sure about the "reminds him of home" bit...

That was my thought .... a battery driven fan but no batteries?? The guy on the island has got some serious problems! I would have taken on of those kinetic energy powered fans, and a flashlight powered the same way. Bugger the riddle.

Then again, maybe he brought a little bit of dope to smoke so he won't feel so bad about not bringing batteries, kinetically or solar powered devices and something to read.

My suggestions:

A chinese finger puzzle

A packet of tic-tacs

A packet of wrigley's chewing gum (spearmint)

A small tobacco tin with a picture of Munsterland on the front

A picture of Herman Munster

A small solar panel? Although a picture of Herman Munster is a good second choice.

If you're going to an uninhabited island you have to take a book. Maybe it's a bible to reference the monastery past of Münster?
