Help modifying the Direct Page Control hack

I know nothing of XML, but I want to modify the Direct Page Hack to serve a particular purpose. I want to be able to enter a range of numbers and have them link to particular pages. Examples:

450101 - 450111 goto page 3
451219 - 451306 goto page 35

My other request, though less important, would be to replace the words "GoTo" to particular names when entering page numbers on the Reader. For example, if the 1st 2 numbers entered are 45 (like in the above examples) the word "Romans" would be displayed instead of "GoTo". The end result would be that entering 450101 would display Romans 01:01 (or 1:1, I suppose) and then go to page 3.

If someone could get me started, I'd appreciate it. I looked at the code, but couldn't figure it out, and I couldn't open it in an XML reader, (got an error). Thanks in advance.

That's a pretty complicated thing you're looking to do there. If you don't know anything about XML or basic programming, it's going to be very difficult.

If you open main.xml in notepad or some other text viewer, and search for "Goto page", you'll find the meat of the hack there.

You're essentially looking to create a sophisticated database for the bible which is likely to take a lot of effort.

Thanks Nogg. I'm ok with a lot of effort, I'm just not sure where to start, so I thought I'd start at MobileRead. I'll google for some starter XML resources, but if anyone has any hints or tips, I'm still open.

For the most part, it won't be the xml that's an issue. Most of the hack is written in javascript that's inside the xml. The code isn't especially pretty, since it's designed to be compact, but it's very straightforward, if you have any programming background at all.
