Kindle format conversions from epub
Thinking of getting a Kindle and have 100's of books for our Sony reader in epub format.

What is best format that they should be converted into to read on Kindle. azw or mobi and does calibre do one better than the other?

AZW and MOBI for all intents and purposes are the same.

How did you acquire the books for the Sony? If you purchased them from the Sony store you will not be able to convert them (without difficulty) due to DRM restrictions (google instructions).

If you can read the ePubs with Calibre's viewer, they can be converted by Calibre to MOBI for the Kindle. If not they have DRM - so add the 3rd party Calibre plugin that strips DRM. You will then have to re-import the ebooks. See Apprentice Alf's Blog for info on DRM issues.
