Footnotes in LRF?

For the first time I'm creating a book with a lot of footnotes and I've started doing it with superscript numbers. I've noticed that this does not seem to be a popular method. Are superscripts really unreadable to some on the PRS?

The good news is that whatever method I choose will be superior to the PB version as there the footnotes are arranged at the end of each very long section.

I prefer to use [1], [2] etc because superscript does look very small on the reader.
Also, it has an annoying tendency to alter the line-spacing sometimes.

I had noticed that.

I don't like the fact that the numbers in brackets are a part of the text and are more distracting than the superscripts are in the PB version (or on the Reader for that matter).

I'll try both methods and see which I like best.

I agree with Patricia: "[1]" etc in the normal text font is preferable, because it doesn't mess up the line spacing and is easier to read at small font sizes.
