Digital Harry Potter manuscript allegedly stolen
Minor and speculative, we know, but according to various news sources, a villainous hacker who goes by the name Gabriel has found his way into a computer at Harry Potter publisher Bloomsbury and managed to steal a digital copy of J.K. Rowling's seventh and final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Wait, did we hear digital copy? Obviously, this story must be a hoax, because, really, as we all know, Mrs Rowling vehemently refuses to port Harry into the digital paper world.
In any case, you can currently pre-order the next and last Potter with guaranteed date delivery and at 50% off its retail price. [via Dear Author] Related: Harry Potter 6 e-book already being pirated! |

There has to be a digital copy to send to the printing machine. And I highly doubt Rowling would be tying her books on a typewriter.

Every book published since the nineties is in digital format for printing purposes. HP6 was available on Internet in the week following its publishing. This one will have beaten it.

HP6 however was scanned from the hardcopy.
The problem was they kept HP7 on a computer internet accessible. |

That would seem to have been a Very Bad Idea. I bet publishers don't usually have all that heavy a layer of ICE either. |

what I have heard it is a fake, it should be this fan-fiction
http://www.melindaleo.com/fics/tsh/tsh01.htm could be several diffirent ones out, but this is circulating the net on various piratenetworks and claiming to be the real thing. (I don't think the author to the fan-fiction claims that) From what I have heard was it a pretty good fan-fiction |

I guess that they kept the files for InDesign... A single click and you get a PDF or Epub version ;-)

There's no such thing as 'bad' publicity ... especially if it's free!

I really wonder how many enterprising fans have written/are writing Harry Potter 7 and will use this "leak", be it true or fake to get their version of HP7 out to the hungry masses.
How do we know when it's real? Could be interesting to collect those "leaked" texts and read them, then compre them to the "real thing"...who knows...some of the forgings might be better than the original... |
