Actually, I used the 1.2 jailbreak mentioned in the hidden spoiler, not the 1.3 download, as I recall.
EDIT: Confirmed. I used "kindle-jailbreak-1.2.N/data.stgz", which was previously at the jailbreak download link. EDIT: There is now a 1.4 jailbreak that looks better on the larger Paperwhite screen. Last edited by geekmaster; 10-05-2012 at 06:08 PM. |

I used data.stgz from 'kindle-jailbreak-1.3.N'. Worked perfectly.
Thanks, guys! |

Okay, so both the old 1.2.N jailbreak and the new 1.3.N jailbreak work. That is good news. I wonder why some people have reported problems.

Almost all of those sites link directly to the 5.1.x jailbreak thread, not this announcement thread. It says nothing about working on a Paperwhite, so that is causing confusion in comments at those other sites. Only hackaday seems to be linking directly to this thread, where even the thread title makes it clear that this is for the Paperwhite.
Even with most external sites NOT linking to this thread, we still have more than 2,000 hits and growing. I suspect that the jailbreak thread is getting most of the offsite traffic. |

Just like when the K5(touch) came out, it took awhile for the hacks to catch up with the new jailbreak. Hacks must be repackaged for the Paperwhite, to enable the "Update Your Kindle" menu item, even if they are otherwise completely compatible.
Some hacks need to be adapted for the different eink screen size. But many should work fine, or work okay but have some minor glitches that need to be fixed. This will all happen in time. Be patient. |

And here is a link from Nate Hoffelder (MR mod "Nate the Great"?):
http://www.the-digital-reader.com/20...be-jailbroken/ But like so many other sites, he linked directly to the "5.1.x" jailbreak post, which until a few hours ago could be a bit confusing regarding the Paperwhite. All is well now, after the thread was renamed to include "5.2.0" and "Paperwhite". It would have been less confusing for newcomers to MobileRead if all those posts had linked to this thread instead, to instruct people in how to use the jailbreak at the other thread. But that is no longer a problem. |
