US Trade Wholesale Electronic Book Sales - Statistics

Would you like to know how much the revenue for ebooks in the US the first quarter of 2008 is?

I can tell you:
2008 Q1 - over 10 million USD.
2006 Q1 - 4 million USD
2004 Q1 - 1,8 USD

For the last 4 years, the sale has more than doubled.

Now - this is something publishers should think about!

Those figures are very interesting, haridasi, thanks for sharing them.

The trouble is that the figures are so small compared to the rest of the publishing industry revenues, that they talk themselves into ignoring them.

I wonder how many years it'll have to double before they pull their fingers out of their noses and take actual notice .... (sigh)

10 millions in the us for three months are small? May be they are, but the growth rate is good. The interesting thing is that the numbers are not complete.

They also state this:
The data above represent only trade eBook sales via wholesale channels. Retail numbers may be as much as double the above figures due to industry wholesale discounts.

even if they were small, a lot of the sales of paper books isn't profit - it gets spent on manufacturing and shipping.
