Effective screen pixels
Hi, I have a question regarding the effective screen pixels. I found out on Wikipedia that the effective pixels are 754 x 584, but including the bar with the page number. And I would like to know the height without this bar, since I use to read manga and imo it's better to have the images at 100% than let the reader rescale it.

The way I read that Wiki entry is that the full screen is 600 x 800 pixels, but effective height is 754 pixels because, when reading a book, the page number bar is 46 pixels in height. I'm not sure why the 16 width pixels are 'lost'.
A screensaver of 600x800 should fit OK, because there is no page number bar. |

I guess the only solution is to test with different sizes and see which one fits... |

I haven't tried in depth, but I think you were right, and the size given on Wikipedia is of the effective reading screen. But I tried to use a 800 x 600 image as screensaver and keep getting margins... not so wide, but annoying. I attach a poor image.

If you want to attach one of your misbehaving 600x800 jpgs I'll try it on my reader, if you like. See if I can figure out what's going wrong.

Thanks for your help
Here is a cover with the black sides to see the margins better. |

Hmm...here is a photo of what your image looks like as a screensaver on my PRST1. As you see, there are no white bars down the side.
So, what is different about your setup? How, exactly are you setting it as a screensaver? |

If you're using cover of last read book then the next question is what is the actual size of the cover image inside the book? Are you a calibre user and if so are you using calibre to convert your books to epub format before transferring to the reader? If so, depending on your calibre conversion settings, it may rescale your stored image as it is inserted into the epub. You can set calibre to create cover images which will always completely fill the screen. The downside (depending on your point-of-view) will be that some covers will look slightly distorted because they have been stretched to fit.
I can elaborate if necessary. |

I use Sigil to make the ePubs and then I transfer it to the reader just putting it into the reader folder or with the software of Sony. But the point is that the "cover.jpg" image I use has 800 x 600 pixels and I get always blank margins on both sides, as it can be seen in the first photo. And it seems you don't get these annoying margins...

Just for this test I used the 'selected pictures' option for screensaver. In real life I use the calibre 'svg cover, don't retain aspect ratio' option to avoid the unsightly margins.
I'm going out now, but when I return I'll try a real book with a 600x800 cover and see what happens. |

If I use an image it works, but not with the cover of the book. I don't use Calibre conversions because I prefer to make it my way.
All your tests are welcome! |
