A little help!

Hi,

I'm in the process of converting a novel from Word format to .epub using Calibre & have received the following error reports:

Errors:
attribute "link" not allowed here; expected attribute "class", "dir", "id", "style", "title" or "xmllang"
attribute "vlink" not allowed here; expected attribute "class", "dir", "id", "style", "title" or "xmllang"
element "span" not allowed here; expected element "address", "blockquote", "del", "div", "dl", "h1", "h2", "h3", "h4", "h5", "h6", "hr", "ins", "noscript", "nssvg", "ol", "p", "pre", "script", "table" or "ul" (with xmlnsns="http//www.w3.org/2000/svg")
attribute "clear" not allowed here; expected attribute "class", "id", "style" or "title"
element "br" not allowed here; expected element "address", "blockquote", "del", "div", "dl", "h1", "h2", "h3", "h4", "h5", "h6", "hr", "ins", "noscript", "nssvg", "ol", "p", "pre", "script", "table" or "ul" (with xmlnsns="http//www.w3.org/2000/svg")
element "b" not allowed here; expected element "address", "blockquote", "del", "div", "dl", "h1", "h2", "h3", "h4", "h5", "h6", "hr", "ins", "noscript", "nssvg", "ol", "p", "pre", "script", "table" or "ul" (with xmlnsns="http//www.w3.org/2000/svg")

I'm not familiar with HTML coding, so any hints or pointers on how to resolve these with Calibre would be gratefully received.

Nigel.

Since Calibre doesn't support DOC input, the expression "form Word format" is a little ambiguous. Exactly what are you using as an input format?

I may be wrong but these aren't calibre errors are they? Since calibre is not a epub editor you can't resolve these with calibre. You might have better success using Open Office and saving the book in odt format then convert that in calibre and see if the initial errors are less. Also Open Office has some ePub creation extensions you can install that allow you to save the book directly to ePub.

If you want your book to pass epubcheck or other validation software hoop you have to jump through you might want to ask in the ePub or Sigil forums.

Those are all incorrectly placed/coded HTML for EPUB
the first 2 are incorrect Inline Styles (hint: they control the color URI links, before and after a visit) that don't meet the coding rules for EPUB
