Cannot get hard reset to appear

My 505 seems frozen. I can get to the main menu but cannot choose any menu selections. It does show updates - I deleted all the books on it. I have tried a soft reset and have tried multiple times to do a hard reset but cannot get it to appear. I followed the directions sony gave me.

Any ideas? I suppose if I need further service, I am going to need to send it in?

Yep, I reset it and turn it on then I hold down mark/volume + but it never goes into the hard reset mode.

I failed to hard reset my prs500 once--I guess that was because the 500 was running out of battery when I did the reset. Later I connected the 500 to the AC charger and did the hard reset sucessfully. Hope other people here will have some solutions for you.

one thing is u should make sure it is charged
then one thing that worked for me previously is have it turned off and connect it to USB port on windows.
it should show up as a usb drive.
format the drive with FAT (=FAT16) and DO NOT have any "disk name" (not even "no name" as under MAC. disconnect the drive with eject device after closing the file mgr on that drive
restart should hopefully then bring up the empty reader. it only works however, if it does still show up as a usb drive. and afterwards u may want to use the option "format" under tools.
