I will second Ivanhoe. I would have pushed Persuasion along (about time I read some Jane Austen) and War of the Worlds along, but both are already fully nominated.


I will use one of my nominations for The Black Arrow by Robert Louis Stevenson.

The Black Arrow: A Tale of the Two Roses is an 1888 novel by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, which can be classed genre-wise as a historical adventure novel and a romance. It is available as an ebook for free from a number of sources (Inkmesh).

I'd like to nominate Middlemarch by George Eliot.

The story centres on Charles Marlow, who narrates most of the book. He is an Englishman who takes a foreign assignment from a Belgian trading company as a river-boat captain in Africa. Heart of Darkness exposes the dark side of European colonization while exploring the three levels of darkness that the protagonist, Marlow, encounters: the darkness of the Congo wilderness, the darkness of the Europeans' cruel treatment of the African natives, and the unfathomable darkness within every human being for committing heinous acts of evil.

Just a quick mistake that needs to be fixed. The War of the Worlds is in the MR library in a number of different formats.

Also, when linking to a search, you cannot use a search ID as that expires. None of the links to the MR library in posts 1 & 2 work.
