Kindle Touch as lbreakout2 AND bzflag server
grabbed http://launchpadlibrarian.net/380310....1-1_armel.deb and ripped out the /usr folder.
splattered it on /mnt/us/usr cp'd the bins out of games to /usr/bin (rather than adding to path) [root@kindle lbreakout2]# lbreakout2server Spoiler:
As you can see connected client from PC. works great. now to see about a native client. SDL support is a bit shaky so MMMV. (My Milage May Vary) Ah bless those armel builds. Last edited by twobob; 10-09-2012 at 11:11 PM. Reason: (My Milage May Vary) spoilers, pics |

Shameless jubilation
Spoiler:
After much source code rewriting...Got it working (to the same place as prboom, no touch input, no output on screen without massage) but yeah. works launches now via vnc. All custom built by buildroot. [root@kindle bin]# SDL_FBACCEL=0 SDL_VIDEODRIVER=fbcon SDL_AUDIODRIVER=dummy AUDIODEV=/dev/snd SDL_MOUSEDEV=/dev/input/event3 /mnt/us/usr/bin/lbreakout2 Quote:

Seems like there are quite a few games that we can get ported across once the Video, Keyboard, TS and FB/Xorg difficulties are ironed out
Happy days http://lgames.sourceforge.net/ they should pretty much all go through buildroot now I've figured out some of the bigger hurdles on that side. The graphics SDL call rewrites are trivial just dull, but totally refactorable into far more sensible command line arguments and in the interim easily scalable "by minds eye". Perhaps there is fun in the future after all. a 8bpp 4bpp shim module might be in order for the 3 soon enough too - or just GM's code assuming that is as flexible as ever Last edited by twobob; 10-09-2012 at 09:39 PM. I vote for BZFlag... we would probably need OTG for that though, unless the kindle does 2 finger tracking, and we would have to write a wrapper for controls... I would buy a KT if it got BZFlag... IIRC BZFlag is all SDL....

OTG is on the cards though. I have the working code for 4. just needs porting forward a smidge... and back a bit... and we have it on all the major devices.
Boom. |

not much point until the major things are fixed.
A) Xorg control. can't expect people to play in DIAG's. that's just ridiculous. B) nicely mapped touch input / key handling / virtual key handling. The Nook demo shows how this could be done for prboom as a for example. C) Cross platform video, GM almost has this cracked in terms of either bypassing SDL or putting his reworked code into the relevant spot. Once we have a working demo of this ACTUALLY happening for a game, we can replicate. D) Elegant failing for audioless devices. probably trivial but SDL gets stroppy. E) OTG Support. Again a nice to have but so close I can taste it. That's my list, when we have those things ramming out awesome apps will be a bit easier. We could just dump the mutex out of SDL and see if that works, GM says it does, I may try at some point but actually fixing the "Blackouts" issues Xorg has would be great via a more graceful method than mugging it. : ) |
