Probably not going to upgrade -- not for a while anyhow. Even though I like the new buttons on the Voyage, I'm not going to pay $199 for an eReader. Besides, I still don't know if my (personal) issue with front-lights is resolved by this newer version -- though I might at least try one out at some point.
As for the new Kindle (Touch 2) Basic, unless the screen is a whole lot brighter than my original Touch (which gets much less use than my Kindle Basic), there's really not much use in "upgrading" to it. I don't gain much and lose my speakers. But the price is really good for what you get. I basically use the Touch when I'm reading books with non-English quotes for its translate feature. I'll probably look for a backup Kindle 4 Basic because they appear to be disappearing fast online and I like the size and weight better than the Touch. Obviously the supply was cut off several months ago. The sneaky devils. |

No worthwhile features added, so no reason to upgrade.

Asking "If you are going to upgrade...", and then having "I'm not going to upgrade" as a poll option is logically inconsistent.

Nope. I don't like adaptive brightness. I like it 100% or nothing at all.

I've pre-ordered the Voyage - I enjoy premium products.

I only just got a PW2 but I can't say I regret my decision and won't be moved to upgrade by the Voyage. The price for the Wifi one in the UK is the equivalent of $276 and that's way too much for me to spend on a reader. I don't like the flush screen even with the "buttons" on the bezel and I'm not convinced I'd be able to see enough of a difference in the screen for it to be worth it. I like the solid feeling of my PW2 and I'm happy enough with it - there just isn't enough here to make an upgrade worthwhile for me!

I'm tempted by Voyage, but I'm planning to replace my Nexus 7 (2012) tablet with a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 in the next few days, and that's a pricey enough purchase for now. Besides, I still love my PW2 and use it daily. Maybe next year.

I don't currently have an eink Kindle, so "upgrade" would not apply to me. While I would like the Voyage, I will wait for a significant sale. I won't pay $199 for it, not worth it, to me.

My 2 generation Kindle Paperwhite is less than a year old, and I love it. I won't be spending $200 for the Voyage.

Yes the Voyage is expensive but I'm upgrading because the new features are important to me:
300 PPI is amazing. I care most about the resolution since I read pretty much exclusively read on e readers. That's actually comparable now to the printed page as mentioned in the Verge preview. Lighter and thinner. PW2 with a case seemed just a bit too bulky for me. I always appreciated the KB4 form factor which the Voyage is closer to. The pressure buttons on the side with adjustable settings are great idea IMO. Of course I will need to try them out but much better than swiping on a touch screen and there is always the chance that a physical button will malfunction eventually. I always missed the buttons on my KPW2. The light sensor seems a bit gimmicky and if I was amazon I would have done without it. They probably could have used a bit cheaper materials and kept the price point closer to $150 without the sensor. I'm in for the PPI, weight, and side pressure buttons. I can always return it if it isn't for me and stick with my PW2 which is a really solid device. |
