BBEdit 10 only $39.99 until 19th October, 2011
Mac users might like to consider getting the excellent BBEdit text editor, which has just gone up a version number to version 10, for a special introductory price of $39.99.
It's a really good XHTML/CSS text editor, with all sorts of useful checks and aids to creating good, valid XHTML documents. http://www.barebones.com/products/bbedit/ |

BBEdit does more things. In particular, BBEdit has specific HTML editing tools.
TextWrangler is a free text editor by the same company. They have a comparison page. |

One thing I've noticed about using BBEdit to edit ePubs, using the Markup Preview in a browser does not load an external style sheet [nor images] when checking edits. I'm guessing this is an issue accessing the .OPF for this info, but it makes it really difficult to see changes (as opposed to using something like Sigil), as an ePub has to be reloaded into a browser or desktop reader for every little change.
Anyone with a solution or suggestion to this "problem"? |

Also, to add to this: BBEdit does not appear to be able to find the content.opf and toc.ncx file when unzipping on its own. It is still necessary to unzip outside of the program (using a different utility) and open the two files separately (somewhat negating the zip feature of this new version of BBEdit).

I don't know. I'm very much hoping that the new edit-in-place in zip files will allow tweaking of ePubs without unzipping/rezipping manually.
If it doesn't work well, I'll certainly be suggesting that it should to the developers. |
